I had to (not a sacrifice in any way) read all the books 3 times to figure out which was my favorite. Honestly, the first time I read this one, I liked it but didn't love it. By the third time through I knew all the characters backwards and forwards and now I really can't pick a favorite. They are all like different flavors of ice cream. Same basic characteristics (cold, smooshy, sugar coma approved) but lots of awesome differences (chocolate, strawberry, pecan praline). All the same characters are back for some fun and more a$$hats are trying to disrupt the status quo! The status is not quo - aliens are here and more and more people are figuring it out. More prejudice surfaces from everywhere. Psychos from another planet doings psycho stuff for psycho reasons but Kitty figures it out with CLUES. She isn't omniscient or infallible but she absorbs everything and makes non linear connections. The characters are multidimensional and continue to grow. People we didn't like before grow on you and new characters are screened and classified friend or foe. I like the fun and the character growth and the underlying feeling that Kitty and Jeff would be just as happy not saving the world every few months.Tags : Amazon.com: Alien in the Family (Alien Novels) (9780756406684): Gini Koch: Books,Gini Koch,Alien in the Family (Alien Novels),DAW,0756406684,Science Fiction - General,Extraterrestrial beings,Extraterrestrials;Fiction.,Human-alien encounters,Human-alien encounters;Fiction.,Science fiction,Science fiction.,Extraterrestrials,FICTION Romance Science Fiction,FICTION Science Fiction Action & Adventure,FICTION Science Fiction Alien Contact,FICTION Science Fiction General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Science Fiction,General Adult,MASS MARKET,Romance,Romance - Science Fiction,SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY,United States, alien in the family;gini koch;alien series;touched by an alien;kitty katt;kitty katt-martini;katherine kitty katt;jeff martini;alpha centauri;science fiction;paranormal romance;humor;aliens;romance;sci-fi;romance books;sci fi;romance novels;science fiction books;alien;science fiction and fantasy;sci fi books;sci-fi books;fiction;novels;fiction books;sci fi book;books fiction;books science fiction;science fiction romance;romance novel;romance book;romantic novels;science fiction novels, alien in the family; gini koch; alien series; touched by an alien; kitty katt; kitty katt-martini; katherine kitty katt; jeff martini; alpha centauri; science fiction; paranormal romance; humor; aliens; romance; urban fantasy; science fiction and fantasy; sci-fi; sci fi; alien; science fiction romance; science fiction books; romance novels; fiction; fiction books; romance books; sci fi books; sci fi book; sci-fi books; books science fiction; science fiction novels; science fiction and fanatsy books; chocolate; superhero,FICTION Romance Science Fiction,FICTION Science Fiction Action & Adventure,FICTION Science Fiction Alien Contact,FICTION Science Fiction General,Romance - Science Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Extraterrestrials,Science Fiction And Fantasy,Fiction,Romance
Alien in the Family Alien Novels Gini Koch Books Reviews
If you haven't already been reading Gini Koch's series about Katherine "Kitty" Katt, you've missed out on a lot of enjoyable reading. Ms. Koch has found a winning formula that involves mixing a light-on-the-science Science Fiction plot with endless action, a lot of humor and plentiful portions of romance. She deftly blends those elements into a seamless whole without ever letting one piece of the formula dominate for long enough to bog things down. Her series (this book was preceeded by "Touched By An Alien" and "Alien Tango") is fast-paced, enjoyable reading that never gets old, and never becomes boring. Amidst all of the fun Ms. Koch also manages to inject a few moment of philosophical introspection, but without ever belaboring her messages.
This newest book is certainly no exception. The story picks up about six months after the events detailed in "Alien Tango," with main characters Kitty Katt and Jeff Martini (one of the key members of the contingent of aliens from Alpha-Centauri exiled on this planet) preparing for their impending marriage. Their plans become greatly complicated when it becomes clear that a contingent from Alpha-Centauri plans on crashing the arrangements. It seems that Jeff is a member of the A-C Royal Family, and his long-forgotten relatives suddenly feel the need to decide is Kitty is good enough to join royalty. And not necessarily friendly royalty, at that.
From here, it's difficult to discuss the plot without dropping out multiple spoilers, something that should always be avoided. As always the story moves along at a rapid pace, and scatters new members of the 'cast' all over the place. In addition to plenty of new aliens we also get to meet all of Kitty's family (including all of her grandparents, and an obnoxious aunt or two), a new member of Alpha Team, and plenty more surprises. Oh yeah, there's also the Poofs. Anyone who's read the book can tell you that it's all about the Poofs!
One interesting choice in the writing of the book is in the handling of the wedding itself. Rather than working it into the main story, the author highlights this centerpiece by making almost a separate part of the story. The first three quarters of the book is taken up with the twists and turns of the plot and a ton of action. Once the storyline has been wrapped up, she turns her attention to the actual wedding. It makes a very satisfying conclusion to a very enjoyable book.
Alien in the Family is the third book in the Alien series by Gini Koch. While you do not have to read the books in order, I highly recommend that you do.
Ms. Koch has created a complex world of characters deep with history and backgrounds, and not reading the two previous books will diminish your overall experience of Alien in the Family. You will not appreciate the little things the characters bring to this story without knowing their history and motivation behind them. With that being said, this book can still be read as a standalone and enjoyed immensely.
Consider yourself warned In order to review this book some spoilers will occur in regards to the previous two books.
Commanders Katherine "Kitty" Katt and Jeff Martini spent the last six months happy and content. Well, as content and happy as one can be while saving the world from fugly parasitic monsters bent on destroying mankind. You see, Kitty and Jeff are on the Alpha team for the Centaurion Division, a super-secret organization that stands between the earth and the evil nasties the universe keeps throwing at them. Killing fuglies and saving the world - it is just routine.
You might wonder what Kitty's qualifications are? She wields her purse and contents with the precision of a neurosurgeon. She seems to be a homing beacon for all things evil, and she can do no wrong for a super-consciousness inhabiting the body of a friend, not to mention her irresistible appeal to all things male - this one does boggle her mind a bit. She claims Chuckie, her child hood best friend, is a conspiracy theorist; but Kitty has him beat. Now for Jeff's qualifications, well he is an alien, super sexy, super strong, super manly, super sensitive (he is an empath after all), super jealous and super in love with Kitty. Yeah, I see you get the point he is a Superbeing after all so his qualifications are pretty obvious.
So planning a wedding is crazy to begin with but when you have human and alien cultures to think of its difficult to say the least - but Kitty she likes to step it up a notch - she never does anything simple. Take the Alien ian assassins bent on killing pretty much everyone but most importantly men. Internal A-C fraction of discord bent on mucking everything up. A super-consciousness with a god complex, who has an army of warriors bent on killing everyone. A very archaic `stupid' family marriage test that Kitty knows she is going to fail. A family from hell - not to mention a major smack down in the desert, if Kitty can survive this she might be ready for James the wedding planner dictator.
Thank the heavens for the Poof ... yup that's all I am going to say on that! Really I said spoilers for the other two books not this one.
Alien in the Family doesn't give you a moment to catch your breath. Its a journey of emotions right from the first chapter and like a roller coast these emotions just keep getting bigger and bigger right till the end. You will laugh and cry with these two right along with there supporting cast of old and new friends, way to many to list but all important. Overall, this book rocked and roll. It was the perfect book for me written with the perfect balance of action, romance, aliens and friendship and as such gets a perfect score. I will say this - my absolute favorite moment of the Alien series is in this book and you would be surprised as to exactly what it is!
My only complaint - I have to wait until the next one.
Why do I love this series because Kitty has flaws, it makes me laugh, cry and just all around feel good - isn't that what a book is suppose to?
