The Wolves of Midwinter The Wolf Gift Chronicles Anne Rice 9780385349963 Books

This is a fantastic sequel to the 1st Wolf Gift book that came out around 2012. Rice creates a descriptive world of earthly beauty as only she can. You can almost smell the cool wet forests, and taste the delicious holiday food. This book takes place from Thanksgiving to New Years picking up right after the first.

These books feel fresh and down home compared to the other worldly vampires in her other series. The Distinguished Gentleman are very mysterious and only some of their incredible past is mentioned. I simply cannot wait for other books to be written about them.

I hope Rice continued the adventures of Reuben and Laura, as she wraps up their story very smoothly. But I want to hear more!

There is also another group of supernatural creatures introduced: the Forest Gentry. They are indeed mysterious and one isn't entirely sure at first where their intentions lie.

This is a fine and fresh series that showcases Rice's remarkable ability to describe lush surroundings. It's a very pleasing read.

The Wolves of Midwinter The Wolf Gift Chronicles Anne Rice 9780385349963 Books Reviews

First things first. Before reading this book, you ABSOLUTELY MUST read "The Wolf Gift," which is the first book in Anne Rice's "The Wolf Gift Chronicles" series.

As with the previous volume, I really enjoyed this book and the story it presents, as much as, if not more than, the first volume.

Referring to both books, I would highly recommend them (initially) to those readers who are fond of Anne Rice's earlier books and series (particularly The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches), as well as to those readers who might be otherwise interested in exploring a new and unique treatment of the "classic" werewolf mythoi.

I felt that this volume was a wonderful expansion on the original story, further fleshing out most of the key characters, introducing a whole cadre of new ones, providing a great deal of backstory on the Morphenkinder, and introducing us to some of the other "Ageless Ones" (specifically the Forest Gentry and the Geliebten Lakaien). As always, I enjoyed Ms. Rice's intimate and detailed descriptions of people, places, and events, and I felt that the story moved at a very steady and stimulating pace.

Having now read both of the first two books in the series, I can hardly wait for publication of the third.
Anne Rice is one of my favorite writers, and The Wolves of Midwinter did not disappoint. Thorough characters, the descriptive detail I love. The insights into human character and traits. The questions we have about who and why we are...especially the theme of living your own life, not the life others want for you...all wrapped up in this glorious tale...absolutely spellbinding.

I love, not just the werewolves, but the idea of the Ageless Ones and the Forest Gentry...needless to say, I now would love to get a story from their perspective.

Rice is an intelligent writer, and the historically information entwined in the storyline is the one thing I truly enjoy about this writer...and her ability to make the reader not just feel as if you are part of the story, not that she paints a picture with words, so that you see everything (such a gift), but her ability to make you love the characters. You love them and they become real, to the point, that if you explain the story to a reader, you feel as if you are talking about living people. She breathes life into her characters.

It just makes sense...she created an honorable role for werewolves...just as she did for the vampires and the witches.

Worth the read.
I loved this book. The first book, The Wolf Gift was a page turner and this book, the sequel, was just as good. Anne Rice is phenomenal. I love the way she writes, it’s as if you can see the scene in your mind. Yes, it’s that descriptive. It’s never overly descriptive to the point that it gets boring either. Her characters are rich and seem alive, lusty and seductive. Funny, Anne Rice has written erotica in the past but she has left it out of this book. When it comes to a sexual encounter, it fades off... like a scene in a movie. One minute they are kissing and the next, it fades out and a new scene begins. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
It has been a long time since I had read an Ann Rice novel. Some passages are absolute gold. There is no doubt the woman can write. But, the direction she goes with the plot often seems distracting because it is nauseating. (Says the girl who reads and watches zombie, plague (fiction and non-fiction), end-of-the-world books. Why do they seem this way? I am not sure and I haven't been paid to delve into it. (I should even add I read all her vampire novels in the beginning, then they became too much too. I read part of one of her sexual fairy tales, but it seemed she didn't understand the conversion of the two. I read her religious ones and was pleasantly surprised. ) I read this second novel (which follows The Gift) because I wanted to see where the characters ended up. The Gift was much better.
Absolutely Brilliant!

Morphenkinders are a brilliant breed in this paranormal world that Anne Rice has created. They are not only very intelligent but sensitive with a big heart. The story captured me throughout the whole book. I didn't want it to end. It was the perfect book to read during this time of year as winter comes on and some of us celebrate Christmas or the pagan Winter Fest.

The story continues from the first book "The Wolf Gift" and the reader learns of other paranormal creatures that exist amongst the mortals like the Ageless ones. The drama dealing with family members, the other morphenkinders who come forward, and the Ageless Ones absolutely mystified me.

The ending was perfect and left me with a smile. I really didn't want this book to end, I want more more more and look forward to the next book in the series.

Excellent!
